  • Homecoming for DeFlorian at Gateway Motorsports Park

Black Diamond Motorsports X-Treme Pro Stock driver John DeFlorian looks forward to his homecoming at Gateway Motorsports Park (GMP) as X-Treme Drag Racing League makes its debut at GMP in the X-Treme Gateway. DeFlorian set the bar high in 2012 by resetting the elapsed time record to 4.018 seconds at GMP and will have to go to some extreme measures to top his previous Pro Stock homecoming at GMP.

DeFlorian, a St. Louis-area native and longtime employee at Jerry Haas Race Cars, has competed in 30 rounds of competition since making his debut at the wheel of his 2012 Clean Coal Camaro built by Jerry Haas Race Cars and powered by Sonny’s Racing Engines X-Treme Pro Stock last year. He has won 21 of those rounds, racked up 3 event wins, has set the elapsed time record to 4.018 seconds, qualified number one 8 times, was the first pro stock to run over 180 miles per hour plus holds the record at180.26 mph and has maintained an reaction time average of .058 seconds .

There’s not added pressure for the Black Diamond Motorsports driver but he certainly wants to do well in front of what will be a large contingent of family and friends.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back to Gateway to race,” said DeFlorian, who is the X-DRL points leader in X-Treme Pro Stock. “We had a lot of fun racing there last year, and we’re hoping to do well again this year for the X-DRL’s first visit to the track.

“We’ll have a lot of friends and family at the track, but we’ll just hopefully use that as extra motivation. We just love to race and we can’t wait to get back after it.”

“You can go from hero to zero in the snap of a finger. It does not last forever and it’s so difficult to achieve. The consistency is showing up and all the work is paying off. The cars in this class are so competitive and it’s impressive how tough this class really is.”

Kevin Bealko, Black Diamond Motorsports Team Owner and America’s Power GXP driver, has been on the fast track since the beginning of the year in the exceptionally tough X-Treme Pro Stock class. Adversity with track and weather conditions has helped mold this team into a serious contender that is on the hunt for their 1st event win. Bealko has had to meet his teammate DeFlorian in competition at three events but both are looking forward to meeting in the finals.

Kevin Bealko enters this weekend’s X-Treme Gateway as the third-ranked driver in the X-DRL X-Treme Pro Stock standings. He trails current leader John DeFlorian by 212-points.
X-DRL’s X-Treme Gateway Showdown takes place on June 14-15 at Gateway Motorsports Park in St. Louis. It’s the X-DRL’s debut at the track and the fourth of nine races in its inaugural 2013 season.

  • Wins, Records Come For Jerry Haas Race Cars During Another Banner ADRL Campaign In 2012

O’FALLON, MO (August 23, 2012) – Always among the premier names in the Pro Stock world, it’s been business as usual for Jerry Haas Race Cars in the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) during its 2012 season.

Jerry Haas Race Cars (JHRC) have claimed victories in all but two of the events in Extreme Pro Stock in 2012, giving the famed chassis builder five wins and making him very happy in the process.

“It’s been very exciting and it’s always thrilling to have that kind of success,” Haas said. “We have a good product and I think it speaks for itself.

“The points leader (Cary Goforth) is one of our cars and the car we’re hauling in my trailer (Richie Stevens Jr.) is No. 2 in points. It’s our deal to lose, and Richie and Cary are right there fighting for the championship.”

In fact, five of the top six drivers in the Extreme Pro Stock standings are driving cars built by JHRC.

But the longtime chassis builder has had plenty of success in more than just the competitive XPS class.

Billy Glidden has set career-bests (3.85) and won the Northeast Drags in May at Maple Grove Raceway, while a true sign of JHRC’s success was evident in June at the U.S. Drags at Virginia Motorsports Park.

Stevens won his first ADRL event, beating Dean Goforth and his JHRC GXP in the finals, but Haas also had winning cars in Pro Modified (Fredy Scriba) and in the Summit Racing Equipment Top Sportsman “Clash Of The Titans” (Terry Teets).

In fact, the car Teets drove to victory in the 32-car field was a car once driven by Haas.

But the bread and butter remains in XPS for Haas, who is has long been acknowledged as one of the best chassis builders in the sport and is a 12-time Car Craft Magazine All-Star chassis builder.

“I think the class is just great. John DeFlorian (who won the Summer Drags in Martin) is my shop foreman and he just pours his heart into it,” Haas said. “Richie is doing a good job and the Goforths are like family. I think the world of them.

“In the 1/8-mile, the guy that doesn’t have the performance edge still has a chance. You can’t give up anything on the tree.”

Haas remains impressed with the 2012 Camaro – driven by DeFlorian among others – calling it the “best thing out there right now,” but his crop of new Mustangs are also just as impressive.

Doug Kirk debuted a new Mustang early in the 2012 season, while XPS standouts Brian Gahm and Scott Hintz should have their new Mustangs before the 2012 ADRL season concludes.

“It’s just a combination of everything that makes it a good car,” Haas said. “The body is really nice and they really look like Mustangs. Our new chassis design has helped the car quite a bit as well.”

  • Jerry Haas Race Cars Returns As ADRL Sponsor For 2012 Season

When looking back at the 2011 season in the American Drag Racing League’s (ADRL) Extreme Pro Stock (XPS) class, Jerry Haas Race Cars (JHRC) were prominently featured in the winner’s circle.

In 2012, JHRC will be just as involved with the ADRL and the XPS class.

The world’s premier eighth-mile drag racing league announced on Thursday at Jerry Haas Race Cars has returned as a sponsor for the 2012 ADRL Tour, and with another large client list, Haas is very much looking forward to the 2012 ADRL season.

“I think the ADRL will continue to go to a higher level and I’m very excited to see where it goes in 2012,” Haas said. “They’re doing all the right things in all directions, whether it’s rules or safety, and I’m excited to be on board for 2012.”

A longtime standout chassis builder in the Pro Stock world, Haas and his team took that to a new level in the ADRL in 2011.

    Jerry Haas
Cary Goforth debuted his new JHRC-built GXP in July and ended up with three wins and the XPS world championship, while his father, Dean, debuted a new car at the start of the season and ended up with another victory.

Add in two victories by Scott Hintz and another by Tony Gillig, and teams using cars built by JHRC ended up in the winner’s circle at seven of the eight races during a record-breaking 2011 XPS season.

In addition, Richie Stevens and his JHRC Mustang also won the Battle For The Belts, helping cap off a memorable season for Haas, who has always held the ADRL’s XPS class in high regard.

“I think it’s one of the best classes in the ADRL. All of those drivers represent themselves very well. It’s a professional class and that’s what we need,” Haas said. “Everybody in that class is tough. You can’t miss any run.”

Other XPS drivers with a car built by JHRC include Kevin Bealko,Doug Kirk, Elijah Morton, Brian Gahm, Richard Penland, Larry O’Brien, Cale Aronson, and Trevor Eman, who debuted a new Mustang last year.

Kirk, Morton and Gahm will debut new cars for the 2012 season, as will John DeFlorian, who will be campaigning a new 2012 Camaro built by JHRC.

The 2012 ADRL Tour begins on March 30-31 at Royal Purple Raceway in Houston.

“With the help of Jerry Haas Race Cars, the Extreme Pro Stock class went to a whole new level in 2011 and we’re thrilled to have them return as a sponsor for 2012,” ADRL Executive Vice President Jeff Fortune said.

Haas, who started out in a modest one-car garage and now works out of a standout facility in the St. Louis area, can’t wait to see the new Camaro in action.

“I think it’s going to be amazing,” Haas said. “One thing about the new Camaro body is you can put the big tires on it and not have to rework the body. It’s just an awesome car.”

Long acknowledged as one of the best chassis builders in the sport and is a 12-time Car Craft Magazine All-Star chassis builder, Haas and JHRC are also involved in other classes. They built the current Mustang for Extreme 10.5 star Billy Glidden and have built cars for drivers in the ADRL’s new Top Sportsman class, which Haas is a huge fan of.

“I absolutely love the Top Sportsman class and I really like what the ADRL is doing with it,” Haas said. “More classes means more involvement and that helps out everyone.”
