NORWALK, Ohio (January 10, 2013) – The International Hot Rod Association is pleased to announce that Maddox Race Cars, based in Piedmont, S.C., has been named the official car builder of the 2013 Summit SuperSeries prize dragster awarded to the winner of the Top World Championship at the Summit World Finals at Memphis International Raceway.
Founded in 1985 by longtime racer Dale Maddox, Maddox Race Cars has provided award and race winning racecars to competitors throughout the southeast for nearly 30 years. Primarily known as a doorcar race shop, five years ago Maddox Race Cars dipped into the world of dragsters and has quickly grown into the go-to place for building machines of both racing disciplines.
“It is a big honor to be a part of the Summit SuperSeries and to provide the Summit dragster to the big winner at the World Finals,” said Kip Maddox, co-owner of Maddox Race Cars. “People see our cars every year at the bracket finals and this is a great opportunity to get our name out there and let people see what kind of work we do on a much larger scale. We are known for our doorcars, but this is our opportunity to show people that we can put together a great dragster.”
From its humble beginnings in an uncle’s race shop, Maddox Race Cars quickly grew into a larger-than-expected operation and made its big move to its current home in 1987. Dale’s son Kip joined him in 2003 and since then the operation has only continued to flourish with the pair moving into the dragster arena in 2008.
“In 2008 we built our first dragster. We have done work on dragsters before, but we actually built our first full rail in ’08,” Maddox said. “Not long after I thought it would be awesome if we could get involved with the SuperSeries program and possibly even build the Summit car because that is the biggest deal in bracket racing today.
“This is a great opportunity to be a part of such a wonderful program and a big stepping stone for us to showcase the great work we do at Maddox.”
Maddox Race Cars was selected from a number of bids for its quality of work and dedication to the sportsman racing community. Maddox built cars were also named Best Engineered and Best Appearing at the 2012 Summit Team Finals at Piedmont Dragway.
This season the winner of the Top category at the Summit SuperSeries World Championship presented by AMSOIL at Memphis International Raceway will become the proud owner of the ready-to-race dragster from Maddox Race Cars. Major components are being provided by Trick Flow Specialties, Imagine That Custom Paint and a whole host of the sport’s top manufacturers.
It is the richest prize in grassroots racing today and it is proudly brought to IHRA sportsman racers by Summit Racing Equipment, AMSOIL and Maddox Race Cars.
