Going into Saturday’s B.A.D. Boys Mother Nature had put a stop to all but one event of the 2014 season. When the racers and fans pulled into Roxboro Saturday, they were met with blue skies and great racing weather.
Just like at the first event that was completed Jeff Miller in his Turbo-Charged Camaro dubbed Bumble Bee took home the trophy. Miller qualified his Camaro in the number spot with a 4.111 at 195.05. The 195.05 that Jeff posted was the quickest mph of the event.
Standing in the winner’s circle Miller said, “I really want to thank my Son Patrick who is my crew chief. Patrick is very intelligent and has really learned how to tune this car. I want to thank my Wife Colleen for putting up with us and letting us do this. I also want to thank John and Craig for helping us crew here today.”
“We had a pretty good day,” continued Miller. “We started out with a 4.11 at 195. We had a little trouble getting down the track. We were just getting too aggressive with it and we backed it down and got down the track. We hurt the first set of turbos which was our 94mm so we put our 88’s back on it. They came in a little stronger than we expected but they worked pretty good. I can’t complain. The track was good. I just needed to figure out how to keep the car off the wheelie bar at half track.”
“I also want to thank Jim Honeycutt for doing all the machine work for us. I would also like to thank Keith Neal from Neal Racing Transmissions for building us this Turbo 400 that will actually stay behind it. Also, a big thank you to Jr Ward, Danny Gizzard and all the staff here at Roxboro for the effort that they put in here. The track is smooth and is always ready for us to race on,” finished Miller.
The runner-up of the event was Harold Barnhardt in his Blown 1968 Camaro. A very happy Barnhardt added, “We had a descent day. The car didn’t work all that good. We just kept hanging in there and plugging away and some luck, well a lot of luck on our part. It was a good day. I’d rather be lucky than good any day.”
Harold continued and said,”I really enjoyed it, I’m tickled to death. To be in the finals and runner-up is great. As far as I know there is nothing hurt on the car. I want to thank my wife Lisa. Without her I wouldn’t be here. Thank you to Tracy’s Towing for helping me also. I also want to thank Jr, Danny and everyone at the track for all their hard work and giving us a place to race.”
